Spituk-Stok (3 days)

1st Day: Spituk (3.200 m) to Jingchan (3.380 m), 5 hours
From Leh you take the jeep to reach the village Spituk 3.200 m (10.500 ft.) with a monastery built in the 15th century. It is a nice view from the monastery on a hilltop over the Indus valley. It is an easy walk to the next village Jingchan 3.380 m (11.090 ft.) including river crossings.

2nd Day: Jingchan (3.380 m) to base of Stok-La (4.500 m), 5 hours
After a few river crossings the walk is little bit hard. You reach the village Rumbak 3.800 m (12.470 ft.). If you leave Rumbak the ascend starts; after an hour walk towards east. You camp on the way up to the pass 4.500 m (14.760 ft.).

3rd Day: base of Stok-La (4.500 m) to Stok via Stok-La (4.800 m), 6 hours
From Rumbak follow this beautiful, gently sloping valley. A very steep and difficult footpath rises in sharp zigzags up the Stok-La 4.800 m (15.750 ft). From the pass it is a steep descent to the summer pastures belonging to the inhabitants of Stok. After that it is an easy going path. You reach the river which comes down from the Stok-Kangri (6.153 m) massif. Follow the left bank of this river as far as the village Stok. Here you can visit the Stok Palace, built in 1814. It was the home of the king of Ladakh. The museum has a unique display of rare ornaments from the royal family, plus tangkas, traditional clothing and jewellery. From Stok you go back to Leh.
